Chapter 8

Within the space of one breath Sebastian found himself in the bedchamber of the Raven Queen. It looked just like he’d imagined it, on those nights when he couldn’t sleep and stroking himself off was the only solution he could find. He’d thought of her, the Queen, more than a few times. She was otherworldly. She was exquisite. She dripped magic in exactly the way he didn’t. He was the unmagical son of an Alpha and she was the Alpha of the Raven Tribe, who cast spells and wove the world as easily as she breathed.

To say the room was black would’ve been an understatement. The room was so black that it gave Sebastian new appreciation for the varying shades of black. The walls and floor were of a black wood, polished to the point of glass-like smoothness. There were no windows. No doors. How there was air at all was a mystery. The only way in or out was via the Queen’s power. If she chose to, she could trap him here forever.

Would that be so bad?

Dim candles in wrought metal stands dripped black wax to the floor, throwing weak light and deep shadows against the room. A circular bed dominated the room, standing atop a central platform almost like a stage. It was one of those canopy beds that Sebastian associated with princesses in fairy tales, with wooden posts supporting a cloud of velvet and lace. The bed itself looked inviting and warm, even more so because of the woman reclining in it, with one long pale leg drawn up, knee pointing skyward, her shimmering gown fallen open to reveal herself.

The Raven Queen smiled at Sebastian in that too-black room and he felt his heart melt a little. The smile was shy, genuine, as if this was her first time as well.

“Come, brave boy, and fulfill our bargain,” she whispered. With a flick of her wrist her clothes melted away like smoke, revealing her pale skin and shimmering silver tattoos tracing arcane symbols on her belly. She cocked an eyebrow at him, and Sebastian felt his clothes fall away too.

“Will I get those back? My wallet was in there. And my phone.”

The Queen laughed her raucous, cawing laugh. “No, you will never see those again. Before the sun rises you will find yourself at the edge of my forest, naked and spent. You will be marked by me, by the scent of our lovemaking, and no living creature will challenge you as long as the stink of sex is upon you.”

“I have to walk back to town naked?”

“It will be worth it,” she said, smiling lasciviously. The Queen licked two fingers and traced a path from her midnight lips, down past her full breasts and silver-tattooed navel to her sex.

Sebastian’s cock leapt to attention. He had no pants to hide in, no table obscuring himself from her view. He was naked and vulnerable and his need for this crazy shifter woman was all too honest and apparent. He took one step, then two towards the bed.
